Accredited bachelor’s training program in English Philology is provided at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The structure and content of the program comply with the standards of the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Inspection of the National Higher Education Board, as well as with the international standard and the Law on Higher Education.
After completing the English Philology higher academic education program, i.e. successfully fulfilling all requirements and earning 240 ESPB points, the student is awarded the degree of a bachelor philologist. This degree suggests gaining the necessary knowledge and skills required to perform works in the spheres of culture, publishing, translation, public communications, especially in the sphere of international communication as well as in all fields requiring professional profile of a specialist in English language, literature and culture.
Therefore, the goal of the training program consists in educational training of English teachers as well as specialists qualified for work in various educational, cultural and economic institution.
The tasks of the training program are as follows:
Development of language skills and competences of students in English as a foreign language to C1/C2 level (independent level or effective use competence/Master/Proficiency), including not only competences in the fields of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, understanding, oral speech, reading and writing, but also in the field of using language, pragmatic and communicative competence, as well as cultural competence in the broader sense with understanding of various language styles and subtypes;
Acquisition of knowledge and mastering of competences for use of the English language as business language or language for various specialities;
Gaining general knowledge about pedagogical, psychological and didactic theories and methods of their application in the immediate professional environment;
Acquisition of basic theoretical and methodological, historical and professional knowledge in the field of English language literature, introduction to socio-historical, material and ideological prerequisites for literary directions, stylistic and genre structures and specifics of English language literature;
Gaining knowledge and skills in another foreign language (Spanish) at least on level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference,
In terms of structure, general tasks and orientation, as well as specifics of the studied subject, the English Philology basic academic training program corresponds to many accredited European programs. Academic staff with necessary scientific and professional competences is provided for implementation of this training program.
