The accredited ENGLISH PHILOLOGY – LITERATURE master’s training program is coordinated with the educational system of the Republic of Serbia and the relevant accredited European and international programs. The English Philology and Literature master’s program lasts for one year (two semesters) and is rewarded with 60 ESPB points. After completion of the academic training program of the second level, the degree of a master of philology is granted to students.
The training program consists of two mandatory courses, two optional modules, science and research work and final master’s thesis. Mandatory courses include such academic disciplines as Methodology of Literary Research, Academic Writing and English Comedy in Shakespearean Times. In each of the two modules, graduate students choose one subject (optional module 1: Postmodernist Literature and Post-Colonial Literature; optional module 2: Narratology and Poetics of Space in Literature).
Master’s degree training for English Philology is conducted by means of various active classes, lectures and practical studies, consulting and mentorship, workshops and research work of graduate students. In the course of studies, the candidate may choose the theme of the master’s thesis. Science and research tasks from the first and second semesters may be integrated in the master’s thesis.
This training program has a double purpose. On the one hand, it provides students with the ability to acquire additional professional knowledge and skills that will help them successfully complete the tasks for which they have been trained during the bachelor’s program – in the field culture, publishing, translation, public communications, education, as well as spheres that require professional profile of an English literature and culture specialist. On the other hand, this program also provides basic education for scientific and research work and gives the necessary knowledge and skills to master’s degree students choosing academic careers and scientific work.
Subject-specific competences obtained by students of this training program are as follows:
The ability to work at the Faculty as a research officer in the field of English literature (enrollment in the doctoral program in case of fulfillment of an additional requirement).
The ability to work in literary criticism.
The ability to carry out publishing work.
The ability to carry out works in mass media (magazines, newspapers, media centers).
The ability to engage in cultural activities (culture workers, employees of various cultural institutions and organizations).
The ability to work at libraries, archives and science institutes.
The ability to take part in scientific projects.
The ability to work on development of professional methodical materials for primary and secondary schools.
The English Philology – Literature master’s program of the Alfa BK University has been developed in accordance with the modern international trends and the state of the profession in the field of research of English and American literature and is coordinated with training programs of master’s academic training in foreign higher educational institutions within and outside European educational space. The program is integral and exhaustive and in terms of its contents corresponds to updating of the program of basic academic training in English Philology at the Alfa BK University.
